Someone may enter a room where other people are smoking it. One may unknowingly inhale some of the smoke that has accumulated in the room and its effects may take place on that person. Would you now let that person drive your kids to school? or if they were a doctor operate on you? What if it was your child who walked into that room? Yes we can all think of funny witty answers, but marijuana when smoked in a contained environment will directly effect others who share the same space.

Marijuana can also be the catalist for paranoia, panic attacks and flash backs. Its effects can be drastically different depending on the person, their emotional state and the way they percieve the world.

Because that would mean that the billions of dollars wasted on the drug war was wrong. And the thousands of black men being jailed would be set free. The politicians don't want to admit they are wrong and they don't want to let a black man go free.

There is no logical reason why it shouldn't be legalized as long as cigarettes and alcohol are allowed.

And for all that say that marijuana is a "gateway" drug. What are your sources? All your doing is stereotyping what somebody has said about it without real proof. Not every person that smokes it is going to want to shoot up on coke and heroin next. That's like saying everybody that has a wine cooler is going to be taking shots of Jack any chance they get next.

No logical reason it shouldn't. People who want to use it, are doing it already, so if it's being made illegal in order to protect people from themselves, the law is a miserable failure. Might as well legalize it, so the government can tax and regulate it like everything else. Sure, it's bad for you, but the government allows cigarettes to be legal, and it claims they're responsible for more deaths than anything else. Where's the logic in that?

it should be legal as it is a natural plant from the earth. all other drugs are somehow manufactured or processed. now saying this , i dont believe people should be under the influence at most jobs, some may be beneficial like cartoons, band etc. but customer service jobs like restaurant staff etc. should not be high on job.
i know from my past experience that i was a lot more calm with other people than i may be now, i stopped totally when i joined army.
i do believe it has medicinal purposes and would make the world a much happier place!! :)

The government would get money off of it, I think it is a great idea. Pott is just pott, and not as bad as Alcohol. I don't smoke the stuff but see no harm in it. I see it as a gateway drug, but isn't alcohol? When I was younger, I drank my first beer before I smoked my first joint. People will do it regardless, and I don't see what we can do to change things now. Just wait a few more decades, I am sure it will be legal one day.

The reason is that in order to make it not illegal we need a change in the law. No politician will support it because they dont want to be seen as "soft on drugs" which might endanger thier election.

Just one more statement: Marijuana is not a gate way drug. Marijuana is not the gate the drug dealer is. Legalization eliminates the drug dealers who offer other harder drugs to people who come to buy some pot.

Their is a huge industry built around the fact that it is illegal. Police that arrest users, lawyers that "defend" users, judges, prison builders, prison guards. Would the politicians that are at the head of this system want to change the system? I think not. It's all about money.

I think it should be legal for Cancer patients, it seems to help them. As far as on the streets, no.

Althought if they did legalize it, they could tax it and make money, of course the Gov. would find something stupid to spend it on. Or they would pocket the money.

It should be legalized.

The fact that drugs are illegal is by far the biggest contributor to the overcrowding in our prisons. It also contributes significantly to our countries poverty rates.

Not to mention the destruction wrought on third world exporters of these drugs caused by the profits associated with illegal markets.

We learned our lesson about alcohol during the Prohibition. What will it take to learn our lesson about drugs?

I have a better question. Why should it be illegal?
As a free person, why should the government decide what I can consume?
Do I not have a right to do with my body as I so wish?
