Pour vegetable oil on the bottom of it. If you realize that you're short of your calories for the day because you've been too busy sledding, you could lick the bottom of your sled then.

You could also look into purchasing wax that people use for skis and such as well.

I also recommend drilling two holes in front of your sled and putting a string through them because then you can somewhat control which direction you'll go; it's nothing too significant, but it sometimes works... For example, if you pull your rope to the right of your body, your sled will turn to the left, and vice versa. It makes sledding more exciting!

If you're using a sled with metal runners instead of the plastic ones, I would recommend switching to the plastic ones. If the runners are too thin, they'll get caught up in the snow. Besides, if your runners are rusty and old, the only way to speed your sled up is to replace the runners with shiny, new metal.

This may sound very stupid, but what you gotta do is take some butter out of the fridge and rub some of the butter on the bottom of the sled, I usually go with about 2 coats of butter.
If that doesn't work, try Vaseline.

Butter it up with spray butter or use spray pam on the bottom of the sled.

Spray with dry lubricant (teflon spray) you can buy from Big Lots, don't wipe it out just let it dry and you should get some awesome extra speed. Don't forget to look ahead as you might hit anybody.
