I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier. It seems at random times the spedometer will not go back to zero when the car is stopped or turned off. For example, I will be driving at 55 mph and the spedometer will read 90 miles an hour. I will come to a stop and the spedometer will stay at 35. The only way to drop the spedometer is to start the car and turn it right off. This will drop the spedometer only by 5. I can also disconnect one of the connections on the battery and it resets to zero.

Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong before I bring it to the shop? Thanks.

It might be the speed sensor. Auto Zone will test it for free. Good Luck.

This speedometer cluster is a sealed unit. They will have to send it out for repair or exchange.
