If you want a story that's cool, sad and action packed, try this web site. It contains the Congressional Medal of Honor citations from the Vietnam War. The sad ones were awarded posthumously. They're the ones with an * before the name.

I have incredible respect for Vietnam Veterans, and appreciate their sacrifices beyond words. However, their stories have been told thousands of times. If you want to get your teacher's attention, then tell a different story about Vietnam.

Go rent "The Beautiful Country".

Here's a link with some information on that movie:

It's a story about a Vietnamese man who's father is an American that served in Vietnam and was abandoned by both his mother and father. The Vietnamese like him are called Con Lai or Bui Doi by the Vietnamese. The con lai have been treated poorly by both the Vietnamese and Americans, because they don't fit in either societies. A story about such people would be different from telling another story about a Vietnam Veteran's combat experience.

Here's some other references about con lai:

Good luck to you!

Well i read a book based on a true story about a year ago and the part that stuck in my head was this part : A platoon of soldiers were hiding from the viet cong and they were all out off ammunition so the platoon sergent told his platoon to "fix bayonets" (the knifes on the end of the weapon) And they actually charged to the woodline and the viet cong started shooting and took a few guys down and one guy stepped in a punji pit (sharped bamboo sticks in a hole covered in feces (poop)) the viet cong got scared and ran away.. Then later the marine that stepped in the puji pit went to the medics and they said they were gonna have to amputate his leg.. The marine flipped out and took out a had grenade and threatend everyone not to cut off his leg, then they sent in the surgen doctor to look at it and he said the leg would be fine and told the marine to take some pills so he wouldnt get gangrene..and he saved his own leg.. Or you can just watch "We were soldiers" the movie, its based on a true story.

I think a much more interesting story is the comparison of how returning troops were received upon coming home from from Vietnam and how the troops returning home from Iraq are received, or at least were received when the war first started. It is a shame how Americans can shun Americans for doing their job.

My brother didn't talk much about Nam.
He had one story which I thought was kind of cool.
He was corpsman with Marines (I don't remember the unit and all that it was long ago)
They got pin down from the North Vietnamees on hill over looking them.
So they called in for fire support. The New Jersey was on duty that day.
So after they called in "Fire for effect". After a bunch of rounds came in they stop to see if they needed to adjust. The smoke cleared and the HILL was gone.

New Jersey ask what they needed to do. The gunny said "Ah the hill is gone! Thanks!" He turn to my brother and said it is nice to have the best gun fire support in the world..

I do hope that helps.
