Smith ran for 975 yards in 2002 for the Cowboys and 937 yards in 2004 for the awful Cardinals. George ran for 1031 yards in 2003 for the Titans and 432 yards in 14 games in 2004 for the Cowboys. But it's a good thing Bill Parcels likes big running backs cause i'm sure Emmit could got more done at the end of his career in Big D than George did.

That wasn't Parcells' decision. That decision came from Jerry Jones and team management. Emmitt wanted way too much money and at the time, he was getting pretty old and declining. Not to mention all the surgeries he had on his shoulder. It was a good move not to re-sign him, but Eddie George wasn't the guy to replace him with. Right Before Emmitt retired from the league, the Cowboys signed him to a one day deal just so he culd retire in a Cowboys jersey. Everyone will always remember him as a 3 superbowl champ Dallas Cowboy anyway so what harm did it do?

It was all about the money, Smith wanted more money than the cowboys were willing to pay him. George couldn't find a job after being cut by the titans so they were able to pick him up for cheap. Originally Troy Hambrick was supposed to be able to take over for Smith, but Parcells did not like him very much.

I'm a Cowboys fan. I'm not sure why they let him go, but it was so sad to see him leave. To me Emmit Smith was one of the best players on the team. When Emmit retired he retired as a Cowboy. The Cowboys resigned him and then he retired.

Smith wanted more money is what it amounts too. Later he turned very bitter of the team saying he was a diamond among trash.
