AFTER A FEW YEARS THE PEOPLE OF HURRICANE KATRINA ARE STILL SUFFERING. WITHOUT ANY HELP FROM OUR PRESIDENT OR GOEVERNMENT. YET HE HAS ASKED CONGRESS AND US AS CITIZENS FOR SUPPORT IN SPENDING MORE MONEY ON THE WAR IN IRAQ. WHEN DID AMERICANS CITIZENS BECOME LESS IMPORTANT THEN OIL?

Truth be told, America has sent billions and billions to New Orleans and the victims of Katrina, even though there is no constitutional authority for them to have done so. The fact is that every FEMA relief effort is bogged down in red tape, and it takes years and years to recover. The people of Florida have known this for years.

Also, there is the state and local bureaucracies that are holding things up. Add to that the rampant corruption of the program with people filing false claims (NOLA was always a cesspool of crime) and you have bogged it down completely. Let's not forget litigation with insurance companies, which drags on for years, and it all adds up to slow recovery.

But as a taxpayer, I'm fairly reluctant to have money confiscated from me so people can rebuild homes below sea-level on a silt island. I'd be willing to pay for relocation, but not for rebuilding on such a poor site.

Perhaps those people should take care of themselves, instead of expecting others' to pay for it. That's what is called self-responsibility - an adult trait. Perhaps when you live below sea-level, you should get flood insurance instead of expecting to take money from others' pockets.

Yes, I'm definitely suffering in my new school and my great house, which for the month after the storm was supported by the government.

Most people that whine about Katrina weren't here and still aren't.
