I think that the violence/self importance lyrics associated with SOME hip hop/rap harms not only African Americans but anyone who listens to them. Same goes for violence, etc. in Country songs or any other music genre. Unfortunately, a bigger deal seems to be made out of the rap stuff because often the violence spills out into real life. There are good rap songs, too, though. Case in point is "Runaway Girl" by Ludacris featuring Mary J Blige (and also Keke Palmer). That song is awsome.

No. Because some rap artists raps about things that are good. They rap about peace in the streets, or maybe for example, Runaway Love.Which is by Mary J. Blige and Ludacris. Rap and hip-hop that talks about negative things...I haven't seen it harm african americans. But some songs that talk stuff like that, reflect onto the younger generation today.A couple of weeks ago, I just saw a 4-year old singing the song"Like That" by Webbie.***Hope this helps!!Please rate my answer as best!!Thanx!!**

Yea. Not only african americans but also little kids. I was working at a concession stand one time and this little kid comes over and starts talking like a gangster. When the girl that was my runner started laughing.. he started disrespecting her. I think rappers and hip hop artists are the worst role models because thats where youths pick up on disrespecting women and thinking that you need a gun and all that other stuff to be cool.

i think alot of the rap music today can be because it takes the listener into too many negative things that can bring out a more angry emotion in whoever is listening to it.i know it all isn't bad but some of it can be. the angrier side of it...i'm don't just pick on rap though, i think country can be a negative on society also.

i dont think so but they give a bad image to black people. if u watch most rap/hip hop videos their about these men that have guns lots of money and half naked girls on their arms. what kind of representation is this of black people in general ? its disgraceful and their music i think is crap because the old rnb and old fashioned soul is the music that should be representing black people not these fake beggars that can't rap or sing to save their lives !!
