Doctors can sometimes tell if a woman has lost her virginity. Most of the replies in this column are correct in that they say that the hymen can be broken during activities that have nothing to do with sex. However, I take issue with the idea that horseback riding always leads to breakage. It DOESN"T !!! This is mostly an old wives' tale that dates from the time when people had to ride horseback as transportation if they wanted to go anywhere. Since the car has replaced the horse as a means of transport, this is no longer really valid anymore, and most of the women who ride are from the upper stratas of society. With these people, the likelyhood of them breaking the hymen while engaged in sports activities is higher. Women can break the hymen while doing gymnastics, ballet, yoga, and even while playing basketball or soccer- riding is by no means the only way to have that happen. Doctors CAN tell sometimes if this has happened, but there are exceptions to this- and this also doesn't take into account the many millions of women worldwide who are BORN WITHOUT hymens. In these cases, it's difficult at best for a doctor to tell if the patient is not a virgin. On the subject of disclosure to your parents- your doctor is prohibited by law from disclosing any information of this type to anyone else, including your parents, without your consent ( and most states have provisions in their legal codes requiring that the consent must be in writing) All medical information is always confidential and must be protected- that's one reason why the HIPPA law of 1996 was passed. It's a FEDERAL law that prohibits disclosure of any type of protected health information to third parties without the patient's consent. This includes things like pregnancy test results, HIV test results, information concerning contraceptive use, abortion status, and a long list of other information. If you are worried about this, check with the HIPPA Privacy Officer at the medical clinic/office/hospital where your doctor practices. Most major hospitals and clinics have one of these people on their staff. It is that person's job to see that all of the provisions of the law are enforced, and that patients' confidentiality and privacy are protected. Good luck.

medical doctors can not tell if you're a virgin or no longer till you're pregnant or have an STD which of route might want to tell them you're sexually energetic. Your hymen can damage at any time, on an identical time as a youthful newborn, from activities, a nasty fall, gymnatics, making use of tampons, bike driving, horse decrease back driving and all sorts of stuff so there is no actual way in understanding even as someone is a virgin or no longer, till you tell them or have between the above I named in the starting up. so some distance as a being pregnant attempt is going... a being pregnant attempt has an area to make certain no matter when you're pregnant by technique of sorting out your urine for the HCG hormone that's the hormone that advances on your blood circulate and then urine circulate once you're pregnant. they could inform once you've this HCG hormone on your blood first and larger wisely with a blood attempt and then after a neglected era it really is powerful adequate to be detected on your urine circulate so as that they could also attempt for it that way, and once you pee on the stick, or in a cup, they attempt it and if the attempt comes decrease back effective than you've HCG on your urine and they could ensure you're pregnant. Then they many times do a blood attempt later on in any case because a blood being pregnant attempt is more desirable precise and may want to also help them ensure how some distance alongside you're, with the help of ultrasound.

Yes your doctor can tell if you are not a virgin (if you are female), however, due to doctor patient confidentiality, they can not tell anyone - especially if you tell them directly not to. If you are female this is determined by if you hymen (the piece of tissue that is broken upon complete penetration during you first act of sexual intercourse).
It should be noted that it is possible to surgically restore you hymen. This done, because in some cultures determining virginity is a requirement before marriage. If the hymen is broken (it could be broken riding a bike or horse), the woman is stoned to death (killed).

Girl, if you are having sex, you should be on birth control and using condoms! Cause neither are 100% effective! There is a lot of responsibility that goes with having sex! You would do better to practice abstinence!
Are you ready financially and emotionally mature enough to have a child? Is your partner financially stable and mature enough to be a daddy?
Are you ready to end up dead from AIDS? How would your parents feel should something happen to you? Would you want to put your family through that?
AND YES, THE DOC CAN TELL YOUR PARENTS, YOU ARE A MINOR AND THEY PAY THE BILLS!!!!

Doctors can not tell your parents that because what is between you and the doctor is confidential. And to answer your question, yes the Dr. can usually tell. Good luck and don't be worried. I just hope you are taking care of yourself and being care-full.

Well... if you are a guy.. your name being Mike and all, I really don't see why youwould be seeing an OBGYN. Unless your name really is Mike and you are female.. then I apologize.
But if you really are female, then yes the doctor will be able to tell, but doctors aren't allowed to tell parents.

i don't know if they can tell or not. but they are not soppose to tell your parents whether u r a virgin or not. u should let your dr. know u r sexually active so they can test u for std's. u must be seeing the gyn because obgyn is for pregnant women and overthere they assume u r not a virgin.

Actually, not with any certainty he cannot. The hymen can be broken other ways - like horse riding etc.
And he is bound by confidentiality not to tell anyone so fon't worry.
