I too love books where the blood drips off the pages as you read them! Are we all crazy if we are fascinated by murder, serial killers, forensics etc, no, I think we are all normal, but should have a job in the crime lab or forensics. I would have enjoyed that.
When I was young at school I wanted to be an archaeologist when I grew up....I didn't do it.
Then I got interested in forensics programmes like Dr.G, Crime scene cleaner, etc. So death and it's meaning has always been interesting to me.For some people this seems really weird, but I think we are all a little morbid at heart after all when there is an accident on the road doesn't everyone slow down to see what's happening?
However, getting back to you....I think you should do a course in these type of things in order to discuss it with your tutor.

Eric Fromm a famous psychologist had a theory that all people suffered from necrophiolia (love of the dead). This would exist on a scale from latent necrophilia to (liking to walk in old grave yards and read the tomstones is an example) to malignant necrophilia (Hitler, Himmler, Stalin, Ghengis Khan). The range includes serial killers obviously. You may have a wonderful future as a forensic psychologist or a profiler. basically you are probably pretty normal.

Go on the CrimeLibrary if you are interested in that. I have read about the most notorious serial killers and it's absolutely shocking. I read about Shanda Sharer and I cried reading that = ( I like watching Cold Case and Forensic Files. I have no idea why, but it fascinates me to see what goes on in other peoples minds. If you do feel empathy for the victims then don't worry that you are bad for reading about them. I wouildn't be so scared though. If you are from Britain we don't have a very high murder rate at all.

No its not normal but I am exactly the same. Its so strange how the human mind works. Its so similar but so different. As long as you only read up on these murders and dont do them then i dont see a problem!
Its good to hear that people take note of the horrible things that happen in the world. More people should be made aware of the things that happen, its truly disgusting.

It's ok to read this kind of stuff, however, it's like eating junk food all the time it's not really good for you in the end. I recommend that you start to read some lighter stuff, chicklit, comedy, bit of romance and so on. After you have done this you might like to read "Killing for Company" by Brian Masters about (uk) serial killer Dennis Nilson. I had to sleep with the light on for months after reading it.

The medical seize-all time period is 'sociopath'. yet there are various ranges of sociopathy. A serial killer calls for a higher degree of self-company, strength of will, and planning ability than maximum persons have. And the reality of the count number is that maximum sociopathic murderers are quite lots above undemanding in intelligence. HTH, Doug

Then I hope you will look up the career of Albert Fish.
I love murderers too. My favourite of modern times is Ted Bundy, because of his style and wit.
But the best of all, ( and his story still horrifies, even today) is Albert Fish. The guy was the ultimate in horror.

I think that every one has a morbid fascination for death to some degree,I think your obsessed with this but you need to divert this interest on something else for a while so that you get things back into prospective

I have an entire bookcase filled with books on serial killers and forensics, so you're not alone. Sure, these people are freaky, but you can't let them scare you into staying home. And I think it's perfectly normal to want to understand what makes them tick. For me, it comes out to "keep your friends close, but your enemies closer."
