Your weight will have an impact on the prognosis.
Hormonal disorders can wreck havoc with metabolism.
But dont get stressed. Be persistent in your weight reduction program not just diet. If you do not have one get one. In the mean while stop intake of red meat / poultry and switch to fish.
Eat a lots of fibrous food. Whenever possible dont call someone if you are nearby WALK INSTEAD. Burrn the calories.

There's a good chance that the cyst could be to blame. I just had an ultrasound yest. and found a 5.5 cm complex chocolate cyst. I've been researching the topic for the past 6 hours. Cysts can be caused by an under active thyroid, and weight gain is definitely a symptom of thyroid problems. Fatigue, constipation, intolerant to the cold, are a few other bothersome symptoms. If you google-ovarian cysts linked to thyroid disease you will get more information than you'll know what to do with. Also, it will help inform you of questions you should ask your Dr.
Unfortunately for me, I'm all to familiar with discomfort caused by cyst. This will be my 4th surgery to have cysts removed and there's been over 20 that have either ruptured or gone away on there own. I've had simple ones, chocolate ones, and my fist was a dermoid cyst the size of a softball. I hope my answer helped. If you have any other questions I can try to answer for you don't hesitate to ask. Best of luck!!!

Someone had asked (a man of course) how you came to the conclusion you had a cyst???
Trust me...If you have had them in the past you know when you have one. I've had more than twenty(20) and I have only been wrong once, and even with that there was still the possibility that there was small one that had burst before my ultrasound. The pain is unmistakeable, not just you abdoman, but your groin, your back, sometimes depending on the size of it,your chest feels like someones putting fingers through your ribs. I'm experiencing all of the above mentioned currently. So as I said, a woman knows!!

I had a cyst on one of my ovaries a year and a half ago and it never effected my weight. As a matter of fact, I lost weight but that was because I was on a diet at the time, like you. Cysts don't cause weight gain. Some medications can cause weight gain, but not the cyst. The gynecologist never put me on any kind of medication for the cyst, either. She just told me that it would heal (go away) and is still keeping an eye on me, at my request. I'm fine now.

How in the world did you come to the wise conclusion that you "may" have a cyst on your ovary. ? And a large one no less?
Ovarian cysts (cystadenomas) have not the least influence on body weight.
But if you really have one (or more) , then deep in the wings stalks something called endometriosis. You should bring your ultra sound scan forward. If its positive the cyst(s) will have to be removed endoscopically (1 day in hospital), or if they are too big laparoscopically (3 to 4 days in hospital) and you will have a subsequent hormonal antagonists treatment during 6 months which will cause what is called an artificial menopause. Dont panic: this is totally reversible and does not affect your fertility.

Hi. Good luck on your upcoming test. You didn't mention any other symptoms and it's not usual to have an ovarian scan as a routine check.
In general, millions of women have ovarian cysts with no symptoms (most don't even know that they are there). They usually don't cause symptoms/problems.
So...I'm going to assume that you and your doctor think that something is going on.
The first thing that comes to mind is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It is a whole host of symptoms that includes weight gain.
Here's a great link: http://www.4woman.gov/faq/pcos.htm

Good luck and take care!

One of the main symptoms of PCOS is weight gain. It's not because you have a cyst on your ovary, it's more to do with your insulin. Women with PCOS tend to have trouble with tolerating sugar, which can lead to diabetes. This makes it particularly hard to lose weight. I have it myself and I am of a normal weight because I work HARD. I workout daily and I eat practically nothing.

The good thing is, exercise and a low sugar diet can help to fight the symptoms of PCOS.
