Yes! It is called "Dia del amor y la amistad" (Day of love and friendship.) Here in Torreon, the stores have been full of Valentine's Day cards and the last Sunday issue of "El Siglo," (one of the local papers) had a special supplement on gifts for your sweetheart.

And don't try to go out for dinner (cena) tonight if you don't have a reservation! Two years ago my husband and I tried that as we didn't realize the holiday was so wideley celebrated -- and after three restaurants with no open tables, a Canadian couple, seeing my husband's distress, kindly invited us to share theirs!

Yes. I am an American living in the state of Veracruz and Valentines Day is a very big deal here.
