To calculate a death RATE you need some measure of time. Without a time period for the number of deaths you cannot calculte this.

According to the definition of death rate, no. of dead among 1000 people is considered as the death rate of that region.
Now if x is the total population and y is number of dead then use the following formula to calculate the death rate/1000

1000*(y/x)

1. You divide the town's population by the number dead and multiply the result by 100.
eg. town population = 20,000
number dead = 5,000
therefore the death rate would be :
5,000 divided by 20,000 times 100 =
1/4 times 100 = 25%

In general you can do this, but there are a number of factors that come into play.

If there are no unusual factors, such as a natural disaster where large shifts in 'rates' occur then you can approximate birth and death rates with exponential functions that are 'fitted' with actual data corresponding to the city/town/region over which this information is needed.

Generally this rate is NOT linear as everyone here seems to think.

So a general recipe for a death-rate equation would be something like:

D(t) = ae^bt, where t woudl be in years and "a" and "b" are constants.

This is a simplified equation.

number of deaths per year per 1000 people average of the entire population
e.g. 25 people died in a town with a population of 625000
first find how many thousands there are in the population (in this case it is 625).
use the number of deaths and divide by this number of 1000s of population (i.e. 25/625) meaning 0.04

that means 0.04/1000 is the death rate

You would also need to know the birth rate and immigration / emmigration but if they were all zero then it would be

Number dead / [(Population now + number dead) * Years]

= Death rate per population per year

1000*(Number of people died in a year)/(Town population)

This give the number of deaths per 1000 population.

even though some of the greatest rock n roll artists have since passed (god rest their souls) doesn't mean the rock n roll is dead it will always live on because people want to listen to the song that they heard when they first got their license, or on their first date, great cruising songs and such. i love old rock n roll music for being a 20year old and so does my little cousins who are 14 and 17
