I have and prefer iPods. Like any other electronic item buy based on your budget. Remember that you get what you pay for.A $25 player will have less options and lower quality than a $300 player. A great place to do research is electronic retailers like Best Buy's web site.

I'd suggest the SanDisk Sansa e200 series. They are cheaper than an Ipod nano(by about $30, depending on what size you buy), they have more features, and a larger screen. Also they are more durable than an Ipod, they have a scratch resistant plastic and a molded metal back. In addition, they also have a longer battery life, which means you can listen more and charge less. I highly recommend it.

I also like the Sandisk e200 series, and their new product line also, but I would warn you if you did get one that you try not to break it or damage it. Also, I am anti-ipod ad i should hope that you feel the same way.
