I took my 2001 Ford Taurus to Advantage Ford in Stuart, FL on 11/11/06 (103,000 miles) for service. They recommended a Brake Flush ($90) and a Transmission Flush ($137). I took it in again on 2/13/07 (114,176 miles) for service to the air conditioner and an oil change and again, they recommended another Brake Flush ($90) and another Transmission Flush ($140). I didn't realize they had just done these two things in November until I got home and looked at my prior invoice. So, what do you think? Is it conceivable that this might have been necessary? Is it normal to do these things at such regular intervals? Or, did they just pad the bill with unnecessary work? Thanks in advance for your advice and knowledge in an area I don’t know much about.

Thanks for the answers. I called them, explained my situtation, and they're giving me a refund for both the brake flush and transmission flush. Thanks again. :)

It is not normall to do these things with only a 10,000 mile interval unless there was a problem with these fluids. Brake fluids are normally good for 3 years, transmission fluid you should get more than 10000 miles out of your fluid. If you knew the type of fluid read the back pannel of the bottle, most will tell you what the change intervals for that fluid is.

Seems kind of soon, especially if you had no complaints with the brakes or tranny. Every two to three years might be a good schedule unless your owners manual specifies a more frequent interval in the maintenance section.

So yes I would be pi$$ed if this happened to me, and even more so if its on the invoice and it didn't really happen. Brake fluid clarity is often easier to check than transmission fluid in my experience.

I dont think the brakes needed it but not a bad idea to keep good tranny fluid in it,a little more than 11,000 miles though!
