Very True !. My grandad fought in North Africa and told me of the horrors he went through and he died a lonely old man in a hostel with no help from anyone ?.
Also when i was in hospital last year there was an 86 year old ex spitfire pilot who fought in the battle of Britain and Ive seen dogs treated better, it was terrible to see a man who had given everything for his country to be treated in such a way !!.

Several years ago I worked in an education centre for 'difficult' young people, aged 11 to 18, who had all sorts of problems, etc. But one day I found out during an initial history lesson that none of them knew very much AT ALL about the two wars, certainly not the dates. Some of them weren't aware of Hiroshima AT ALL or the battlefields of France, or politics (closed book), suffering, struggle, poverty, etc (Most of these young people had affluent parents). So I spent a lot of time and energy (willingly) on opening their eyes to a world which existed outside their sad, introverted selves ... It took a while but they did change, they did come to respect old people for a range of reasons (including those old people who had been young people fighting in wars), so part of the answer (and I think your question needs a better and longer answer) is education - show people the many ways that our elders fought, etc It can be done by book, by poetry, by TV archive, by museums, sometimes by getting an old person to come and just speak to them, you just have to be resourceful, I suppose. There are of course more reasons why people don't respect our elders, but I'll stop now.

I agree, there is a lack of respect in the world today. I am not necessarily in the opinion of 'older and wiser', but I think people who fought for our freedom should be valued by young people much more than they are.
As far as women who run the country (I'm talking about Britain), I think they're recognised just as much as the men.

Because we live in cesspit of a country only concerned with foreigners human rights. I read yesterday 1 in 3 doctors don't see the point of treating anyone over 60. F*cking shameful, but then again how many of the doctors were English/British?.

I absolutely agree with you, I work in the "care" field of Older People and some of the treatment they recieve from society in general is shameful!.
I live by the adage..........there but for the grace of anyones God, goes I.
I've recently been involved in the care provision of a chap who was in Bomber Command, SOE and present when Auschwitz and Beslen were liberated. He is a truely remarkable man from a lost generation.
Shame on us all.

Ignorance of what these people fought and died for.
Plus we now live in a very selfish time, when people think only of themselves and disregard those that went before.
