Depending on your age i would suggest:
16 and up (usually younger crowds 16-25) MySpace - you would create a page and can search for friends pages one of the best websites of its kind (FREE)

18 and up Classmates.com - it has many different prices and packages including a free one. You can search by school, work or military.
18 and up Whitepages.com good old fashioned phone book with new technology.(free for phone number)
