in my point of view, i don't think that they have ever existed in the way that we have in mind - cursed such as the pirates of the Caribbean- ,however , i think they have existed as sea thieves. as a result, i am not sure whether one could find them or prove heir existence...........but i would love it if they do exist :)
very nice question by the way

Yes; but they don't look like the pirates from Pirates of the Caribbean.

A pirate can be someone who commits the more modern form of piracy; which is using someone else's copyrighted material without the authority.

Also, there are still groups of people who commit robbery at sea. This isn't extremely common, but occurs all over the world.

Yes

In some areas they like the modern pirates of old, but most have become very sophisticated and are able to steal whole container ships. Most of this happens in and around Indonesia and the Philippines. Some in central and South America.

Yes, but modern pirates use AK-47, automatic rifles and grenades instead of the cannons and swords of the pirates in the past.

YES!

You haven't been keeping up with the news. Not too long ago, there were some pirates stopping, boarding and robing ships. I can't remember where they were but it was all over the news at one point.

Absolutely. Mostly you do not hear about it, but in some magazines I find articles about speed boats in the Pacific, around Indonesia, where they will board a freight ship, rob everyone with automatic weapons and speed away. They still exist in the Caribbean, stealing pleasure boats to use for smuggling drugs.

Yes. You tend to hear about them in the area around the Phillipines often. I'm sure there are many other areas of the world, too. They aren't going to be dressed like Captain Hook, mind you.
