Make up little songs. The reason most information for little kids is packaged in a song is because we are better able to remember a melody than a list. If you have a list of things to remember, chant or sing it. If you have information that is not in list form, find the connections. Draw it. Or find a way to make it a song or chant.
Rereading the information, taking notes out of the textbook and studying from your text notes and the class notes are the best way to study what you need to know and discard some of the extra stuff (the extra stuff can be interesting and help with memory though).

yes..use Mneumonic devices. It always worked for me. Mnemonics rely not only on repetition to remember facts, but also on associations between easy-to-remember information and to be remembered lists of data, based on the principle that the human mind much more easily remembers data attached to spatial, personal, or otherwise meaningful information than that occurring in meaningless sequences.
For example, when I was studying court cases, I would think of someone I knew that might be affected by it to remember it easier.

use mnemonics. or play memory games. You can also use clues such as using the first or last letters of the words you need to remember or recall something that is very related to the idea you want to remember

flash cards and memory games, sometimes the book you are using will have a cd that goes with it for helpful games and practice. another thing ive realized helps me is using colored flash cards or writing in color. sometimes just remembering "oh i wrote this one on a pink card" will help you especailly if you match the colors with somthing in the word or definition. another thing that helps is writing the notes over again and paying attention to what you are writing not just copying it. also you can make your own notes sometimes that helps me. hope this helps. good luck!

use word association
take whatever topic your studying or whatever
and think of something you know youll remember
example:
cabinet in political terms
think of all the politicla leaders heads in a cabinet
(ive used that one in history and my teacher used it later in his next classes!)
anything that will keep your attention that you can think of that
when you hear a word
