Gawd - so many ways

o Triplets/Quads/Quins... etc other multiple birth apart from twins

o One or both are adopted

o Local (tribal) law regards them as her sons (even if they have different biological mothers)

Not sure about the different months theory or the two-wombs theory. Hannah Kersey had two wombs (see the wikipedia) and her children are considered to be twins/triplets.

Kidnapping is a good one! :)

I've heard of this occurring to a former co-worker's daughter and her husband. The woman produced 2 eggs at the same time. Both eggs were fertilized by two different sperm(one husband) at the same time or at times very close to each other. They thought they were having twins but the doctor said they were neither fraternal or identical twins.

They weren't twins but they were triplets. The riddle just doesn't mention the third child.

Well, the day could be "Tuesday"... and there will certainly be plenty of Tuesday's which are at least 9 months apart...

Therefore, she simply had one child early in the year on a certain day (e.g. Tuesday) at a certain hour (e.g. 6am), then at the end of the year (after she's fallen pregnant again) she has the second child also on a Tuesday at 6am.

I believe that's the answer... Or something like it! ;)
