The DaVinci Code is a work of fiction. Not even Dan Brown, the author, believes that there really is a "code" to be deciphered.
However, he does base his premise on a few historical facts. That's often the mark of good fiction...to create a plausible scenario that aids the reader in suspending disbelief. (Michael Chrichton and Tom Clancy also do this very well.) Obviously, many people have taken that suspension of disbelief to manic levels and now believe it to be real. But that doesn't make it real.

It is fiction, the work of a novelist, mildly amusing, but otherwise not historical.
