Dell D410.

Going to Czech Republic, France, and Spain.

I've read various things on the Internet. Some say to use a converter, some say don't. And I cannot find anything on the Dell site that answers the question.

Have you done this? If so, what is the safest, easiest way?

Thanks for the answer.

Somebody here suggested I chat with Dell online. They gave me the answer. (No converter needed, just an adapter.)

bon voyage
u'r notebook & power adapter are built to operate globally

all u gotta get is a plug adapter kit, as below
http://www.ciao.co.uk/APC_International_Notebook_Plug_Adapter_Kit_C6_3_Prong_Power_cable_kit__5634012

the reason being that the power plug / sockets in different countries are shaped different

true voltage levels are different, but all u got to do is read the power adapter specifications
which should read 100 - 250 volts input, 50 / 60 hz
your output is constant 19.5 volts dc, irrespect of input voltage

check it out & let me know ...

i'm afraid tentofield has misled you somewhat. it is no longer in basic terms a question of voltage. I even have right here a transformer that drops 240 V right down to one hundred fifteen V. It weighs in simple terms over 4 kilos. The output is 0.35 amperes at one hundred fifteen V. AC. which ability it could take care of one hundred fifteen cases 0.35 or 40.25 watts. that would desire to be plenty to run your laptop or telephone charger yet there isn't any way it might desire to attend to a hair dryer. it might desire to have the potential to handle a hair straightener, a small one that pulls 35 W or much less. that's a transformer, an basic yet heavy gadget made up of iron slats and 2 copper coils. To run a hair dryer might desire a good larger and heavier transformer, probable weighing 25 kilos or greater. Now in case you seem heavily at your telephone charger, it could have a label that asserts that's ideal for one hundred to 240 V. The output is 5 volts DC. Mine has that label. Your laptop charger could be comparable, yet verify the label or any e book that got here with the telephone or laptop. in the event that they have this label, all you like is a plug & socket adapter. the version is that the indoors circuits are meant in basic terms to offer an rather small direct contemporary and a transformer isn't mandatory for that, in basic terms some small diodes and a voltage regulator. you will locate that maximum medium to bigger priced resorts and resorts in Australia have hair driers under pressure in or accessible from reception. So do no longer convey your own. .

Been to Europe 6 years. The normal power situation is double.over there. 110 here, 220 there. Power converters or adapters are essential if your laptop doesn't have one. They are actually inexpensive and readily available over there.
