This is a new answer,if you already read my first one...
This is actually a trick question. My 2007 Outback was "manufactured" in Indiana, but much of the content - engine, transmission, etc., was imported from Japan. There is a tiny little insert in my owners manual disclosing the country of origin of all the parts and it seems like all of the major parts are made in Japan. I believe the body was acutally made in Indiana, but I can not find documentation of that. This is something that foreign car manufacturers do to get around import limits. They have not actually imported any cars, but the major components are brought together and assembled in the USA. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but just answering your question.
There is a section on the window sticker, which I assume must now be a part of all window stickers, that reads:
~~~~~~~~~~
PARTS CONTENT INFORMATION
For vehicles in the carline:
. US/Canadian Parts content: 55%
. Major sources of foreign parts content: Japan 40%
Note: Parts content does not include final assembly, distribution or other non-parts costs.
FOR THIS VEHICLE:
. Final Assembly point:
. Lafayette, IN
. Country of origin:
. Engine: Japan
. Transmission: Japan
~~~~~~~~~~
The phrase "for vehicles in the carline" means that these are the average figures for the entire Outback line. You have to look at the "for this vehicle" section for your specific car.
