Hell no...their economies are all dead for a reason. The government also has a tendency to screw alot of things up. I agree with the legalizing gambling and soft drugs, but if you had some type of national salary cap, the most talented entrepreneurs would give up our citizenship to find a tax haven (e.g. Mick Jagger, the UK taxes the **** out of him so he came here). The best way to stimulate the economy is through competition and privitisation. I know your not going to agree with me because I think you have your mind made up, but I had to say it.

Sir, america would be very much worse off if it adopted a socialist economic structure. low taxes encourage people to work harder because they get to keep more of their cash. I'm writing from the U.K where we are lumbered with a socialist government and because of the policies they have introduced there is no incentive to work hard any more. We are becoming gradually less productive as a nation. With regard to healthcare, the National Health Service has a budget of £90 billion per year, yet hospitals have no money and staff are routinely laid off. And the idea of a wage cap would lead to higher unemployment and possible deflation because workers would be unable to purchase goods that they wanted. I think it would be a short term AND a long term loss.

How can a person be truly free if he is dependent on a government handout? Socialist countries have no motivation to better yourself, it creates a large welfare class that just siphons the working man's tax dollars. It will be the middle class that pays for these things too, the rich can get offshore accounts in tax havens and the poor won't be accountable at all. The money put into a socialist economy would be much better spent in investment into US companies to encourage them to open more jobs on US soil for Americans.

Yes, I somewhat agree in principle.
I think the US should adopt a more communist approach. In this country, we suffer under a petty bourgeoisie bureaucracy. This should be a Christian Communist nation where everyone works for the benefit of everyone else.
However, the assertion that there is 'money in sin' is not right. Gambling is a waste of money only benefits the casino.

Why?
Is there a shortage of opportunity?
Why don't we, instead, encourage people to get off their duffs and make something of themselves?
Abolish all welfare, except for invalids and children, and the poverty problem will disappear in a generation. In other words, work or starve.

that's interesting...only if america can see those structure as productive and efficient, but as long as it's apparently slow in progress in european countries like germany (high unemployement rate, has the most no-work holiday, etc.) and france, i doubt US should follow suit...besides, even the most successful among them so far- UK, her economic policies are being patterned to US (Brown's UK agenda)...so there are insufficient reasons to follow theirs just yet.

It worked so well for the Soviet Union. Did you ever wonder why the US has the most potent economy in the world? Maybe it's called capitalism.

Nah. I like the bourgeois approach, personally. If I fail, it's my fault, not some faceless bureaucrat. I prefer self-reliance over a handout. I could never count on my government before, on a personal level, why start now?

Doesn't sound like you want to be responsible for anything in your life. Don't you want to have freedom to make your own choices about your career, doctor, retirement, where you live, etc.?
