I have digital cable and Once I clicked on something that was coming on later so that I could have a reminder timer, and I saw the option to record the program. I clicked record to see what it was and it said, "Program your VCR manually now for this recording to be successful." Does this mean I have DVR?

No. Had you had a DVR, the cable box itself would have recorded the broadcast and you wouldn't even need a VCR. I think the feature on your cable box will actually change the channel so that when you program your VCR to tape something, it will be on the channel you want taped. A DVR would do this too, but with a DVR, you don't have to worry about setting a VCR timer, making sure a tape is in the VCR, etc. The box will record the program in it's hard disk space.

Also, don't listen to the gentleman who says color of the box has anything to do with it; different cable companies' DVR's look different although he is correct that DVR service usually does mean a hike in the bill.

It's an option on normal digital boxes that locks the channel so that you can record on your VCR without worrying that the digital box is going to change channels accidently

more than likely not..what kind of a unit is it. What service do you use. Dish Direct or a cable service. ..look for a model number on the front of it. GOOGLE that and look up the model number.
