I never said I thought we lived in a democracy. I know we dont. But people keep into idiotic arguments about it with me. So I was curious if anyone knew why they thought this. I am not trying to start a fight here.

Because you (and lots of people elsewhere) are brainwashed to think so.

We need a little more intelligence, lots of knowledge and an ability to think for ourselves to see if voting once in 4-5 years constitutes a democracy or not.

How many of us really can evaluate how our votes are won and what's done with them?

They call it a democracy because it is the closest to democracy you can get with such a big country. There is only one true democracy. Israel. Most so-called democracies are Democratic Republics because democracies are hard things to keep up. Democracies take a long time to pass laws and write them.

We don't live in a democracy.... We live in a Constitutional Republic.

In any case your question is designed to provoke a fight...Just remember that if you engage in a battle of wits, make sure come armed...

i can see where your question is coming from...our government is flawed, as are most governments....HOWEVER, compare our government and the rights of the people in the usa with almost any other nation, and you'll learn to appreciate what it means to live in a democratic nation, albeit a flawed one.
