We give different names to God, although God doesn't have a name. This variation exists because of the cultural differences and different beliefs of people in this world. If you believe that Ramayan is the real God that inspires you to have faith and be a good and moral person in your life, use this name to approach him. The descision belongs to you...faith in God is a personal matter.

In those days, the concept of Surname was not there. People were known by their mother's name eg. Yashodha nandan, Sumitra Nandan etc. At best we can say Ram Chandra Suryavanshi. But if you have read the Geeta, it clearly states that you can call HIM by any name and He will still respond.

Well, surnames only came about in the last couple of centuries, because the population became large enough that you had to have them to differentiate people.

God never has a surname, Ram didn't, Krishna didn't, etc. etc.
