for those people who are pessimestic the exercise of reminding themselves as to be positive but in the case of stubborn optimistic (like me) this is not required. Even if circumstances make me depressed during certain point of time the rechargeble battery in my mind recharges itself and I come out of my depression very easily. For people like nothing is a worry its all that comes along in our life and I would like to cross it over. For example I lost my father when I was only 20 years and joined the job in the same company he was working and continued there ( even now) and I face lots of problems both in the family in the friends circle and even at office and I just dodge over them. For me gaming over the hurdles / problems is exciting and if such a thing is not there I would be lazy and worried.

Yes, that is why we have cognitive therapy. From conditions beyond our control (how we were raised, society pressure to name just a few examples) our minds have a tendency to gravitate to what it is taught. As we are conditioned at times to be negative, we also need to "re train" our thinking patterns to be positive. It can be done. I would recommend gathering as many research tools as you can on cognitive therapy.

Yes i do, because i have the tendency to think of the worst when something happens, so my mind starts making up hurtful thoughts, when i realise that, i tell myself to stay positive and not think of the worst. It works.. sometimes

Yes, I do have to remind myself. Is the glass half full or half empty OR is the glass too big????
I do have depression, but pain is inevitable, suffering optional.
