I'm not sure if you will be on top of the list because you are single and healthy. They usually give them to the most needy first and even then it's difficult. On the plus side, there's not so much call for 1 bed flats, so easier to get than a house. Get an application from the council, they ask you questions and then they figure out how many points you get from the answers. You go on a waiting list then. I haven't got a council house but I did apply for one when our luck was down, we have our own home now, which is good!

Become an immigrant if your not already. British people get nought, you can wait ten years but make sure you have proof for the last ten years or you will have to start from scratch. Bank statements rent book invoices anything with your name and address on oh and the date if you can provide thoses Then This Will Prove You Have Been A Resident IN the Borough ( what a load of old bollocks ) THIS IS THE RULES OF SOME COUNCILS FOR NATIVES OF THIS COUNTRY BUT IF YOUR AN IMMIGRANT NO PROBLEM.

Single, healthy, male, 20: not a freakin hope mate.

Single, severely disabled, female, kids: in 3 years, if you're lucky.

Get a job, there is no reason why you can't.

You'll have a family and mortgage before you get council housing. It takes ages. I used to work for a housing association - might be worth checking your local one out instead.

no chance!

you would need to put yourself on the council list. then wait for probably 20 years before you become eligible for a place. this would likely be a grotty bed-sit.

so your best option is to work really hard and try get your own property. failing that you could meet a girl get her pregnant then you will have a house!!

Not a hope if you are capable of work, young, single, and male.

You will be well down the waiting list, as they are prioritised towards those that have most need
