Industry is bigger and includes many businesses for example telecommunication, automobile, aviation, construction, entertainment, film, are all industries.
providing telephones, mobile cellular communication is a business done by a firm, within the telcom industry. there will be many firms doing similiar businesses competing with each other in an industry.
making cars, providing air travel, running an airline, constructing buildings,making films, holding shows are all businesses of these industries. In an industry there will be many types of businesses all inter connected to each other like repairs of cars, car insurance, car sale, car manufacturing , car licensing all interconnected but separte businesses within the same industry. Industry is a loose term given to businesses related to a similiar field.
