My last vivarium was bought ready made and sealed but im building my new one from scratch and i have to seal it. do i need any special kind of silicone or will he be ok with anything?

no, silicon is very much safe in sealing aquariums and other cages for animal. but be sure not to put your snake immediately after sealing his/her new vivarium. better to dry it for about 3days then wash it water to take off chemicals from a dried silicon. you don't have to asked you vet or some petshop, they will just give you same silicon product with a far much higher price. don't be fooled by vets and petshop owners...

You need to go to the pet store and buy some which is safe for snakes otherwise he may die. They have special silicone there made for just that purpose.

i use GE silicone 2 which is clear and 100% silacone
its for windows and doors home depot sells it for 6.99 or so
i do alot of decorative aquarium work and i find it has less odor while you work with it and holds good, just let it set for 24 and rest for a week before you put a pet in there

Any sort of aquarium sealant should be fine, as long as its completely set/cured before you put the snake in.
