It's considerably cheaper to buy a reconditioned laptop from the Currys or PC World website. Does anyone have experience with one of these? Is it a bad idea, or a great deal?

In my experience the answer is 'don't'. The laptop I bought had all sorts of problems and it became a yoyo going backwards and forwards to the store for repairs. Frankly, I wish I had paid more money and bought a new model, perhaps of a lesser spec than top of the range expensive models.
Good luck.

I bought a reconditioned laptop from PC World, and had nothing but trouble with it. Incidentally, Currys and PC World are part of the same company (DSG International plc (formerly Dixons Stores Group plc.)

My friend,it's a great idea to get one of these machines. I know this because I used to be one of the techs that repaired and tested the refurb' laptops for DSG (Dixons, Currys, PCWord). The reason why they are so cheap is because the are discontinued models that have been returned for various reasons. They are throughly tested and carry warranties so you shouldn't have any fear about them breaking down.

Hope this helps

Regards A.

They are how shall I say it politely - not worth buying from Currys or PC World. Most are refurbished cases only - you know cleaned up - the batteries are sometimes shagged and you will have trouble with them if you need repairs!

As Daniel says above - get a new one from Dell -they have some good deals on finance

my suggestion is go to gateway for a laptop.they offer a better machine at about half the cost of a dell. plus gateway's tech support people all have english as their primary language. not so for dell, plus i don't consider myself anything but an advanced user but when i called dell's tech support all the so called knew how to do was use the windows help files needly to say there will never agian be a dell in my house.

For Reconditioned computers with a full manufacturers warranty go to one or all of the following sites. For Dell go to www.dell.co.uk/outlet and Click on to Outlet notebook. For Apple/mac go to www.apple.com and scroll down to Save and click Save and then take your pick. For Toshiba go to www.toshiba.co.uk and Click on to Computer Systems and then Click on to Products and then Click on to Auctions or Online Auctions
