He wanted to be God, Himself, kind of like all of these people in America who want to be president. Second banana wasn't good enough for him.

Lucifer being evil is a "modern and late Medieval" Christian theme. In ancient times he was a "tester" of man. Like the temptation of Eve in the Garden, in the Old Testament and Jewish doctrines he is an adversary of man.
He did not choose to be evil, we gave him that trait in literature and to serve as an antagonist for evangelical purposes.
Also, he wasn't the most perfect angel, he was the most beautiful. He was cast out of heaven. Read Revelation 12: 7-9, 12.

Your confusion is the natural result of all the false teachings all around us. This reference to the devil being the most perfect angel is a parable designed primarily to help those of us who are in the early stages of development to begin to understand. However, as we advance in knowledge, then more complex ideas and teachings are made available.
In the beginning, we were created innocent and ignorant spirits destined to attain to spiritual perfection through our own efforts. Initially, we were as the devils and little children, mischievous and playful. "We did not know what we were doing," said Jesus. We were spiritually immature, even as now. We here on earth are filled with all the wrong attitudes and passions – hate, anger, jealousy, selfishness, greed and envy.
But after we are through with our earthly education, then we can ascend to heaven.

this is a tough question because i can only go on what ive been taught , but i therorize that satan who was then called lucifer, was the #1 angel , and maybe he got to thinking that god couldnt do without him, and his pride was his downfall as it it is with so many people in the workplace when they think the business cant exist without them, and I think God gave him a choice serve him or be banished and satan has had it in for God ever since. But satan isnt ominpresent God is, and satan will lose, but I think he still trys to bring about the fall like always

They are called Fallen Arch Angels and some either questioned God and fell from grace while other ones chose to descend of their own free will. Questioning God or anything else is NOT evil. Since God's ego was hurt he labeled all the Fallen Angels as the devil.
Go to any search engine and type in Fallen Arch Angels and the proof is there. Lucifer was the Arch Angel of white light. He was the first to fall from grace. Samiel was the second Arch Angel but he descended of his own free will. Questions and free will are NOT a sin.
I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS FOR OVER TWO YEARS. I SUGGEST OTHERS SHOULD RESEARCH BEFORE THEY GIVE STUPID ANSWERS.

The answer is that when MEN were writing the bible and the stories about god and satan, they needed something to scare the people around them into living a good life.

If one believes in free will, then the conclusion is that Satan chose his lot. If one supports predestination, then was there a choice?
