You can put copyright protection software on your DVDs that will prevent people from ripping them, although they could just find a DVD decryptor and remove that copyright protection.

I'm not sure if you can put copyright protection software on CDs, but even if it were possible, as I stated above, there are DVD decrytors and probably CD decrytors and will remove the copyright protection from the CD/DVD.

Unfortunately, you will have to take a huge risk if you are starting your own record label.

You can get decent DVDs for very cheap these days (Spiderman 2 , the double disk edition, is only 3 quid at Woolworth's). Pirates have no excuse.

If they can hear it and see it, then they can copy it. People have copied speeches, books, etc since time unmemorable. Even though it is often cheaper to buy the real thing than buy all the software/extra storage space etc, stupid people still steal.

But, I have a plan to stop professional pirates and file sharing. Create fake copies, that are the same for the first minute or so, but afterward go into something really stupid, like wedding photos of Latoya Jackson or your little brother singing the Brazilian national anthem very badly.

Make sure these are distributed heavily, and flood the pirate market with total garbage.

The other option is raising children properly. Parents who spoil their children and don't punish them for lying and stealing should have their children taken away from them.

Perhaps if you price your artists music appropriately, then you won't have as big a problem as the other labels.
Currently, I know of know fool proof way to protect media from being copied.
