He had his chances. But could not capitalise.
Unlike Sehwag and Pathan he is not an allrounder.
There was more competition for the middle order batsman. He lost that place to Dinesh Karthik.

I agree that Kaif has been unlucky, but again, you should understand that the selectors can only select upto 15, which I think is less.... probably 18 would be wiser for such a long tournament! I completely agree with your point that Kaif is not getting a chance despite doing well in domestic cricket, whereas Sehwag and Pathan are........ but that's where politics comes in.
If you have noticed, since the last world cup, ganguly, tendulkar, sehwag, dravid and yuvraj havent budged from the team for this WC, which leaves just 2 places or max. 3 places for the other 'batsmen'. And how many batsmen come in this "others" category? uthappa, karthik, gambhir, raina, kaif and maybe even laxman. now given this fierce compeitition and the team's poor form off late, these players have maximum of around two games to prove themselves and failure to do so can mean EXIT for quite some time.
gambhir is a good example. he started the series against WI with a half century, but only scored in single digits in the following match and where's he now? Out of the team! Maybe, the youngsters will be lucky when the likes of ganguly, tendulkar and dravid retire from International Cricket...... which may not be for some years to come, i think. and i wish that time never came!

The exclusion of Kaif from the world cup squad is indeed unfortunate. He can be only included as a batsman. Since he has miserably failed to deliver even after giving ample opportunities, there was no place for him in the team when
Sachin, Ganguly, Yuvaraj are there. He cannot be taken as an opener when other regular opener like Uthappa and Gambhir are available. He cannot be compared to Irfan Pathan as Pathan has been included in the team as an allrounder. He also cannot be compared to Sehwag, as Sehwag can be used as a bowler. In case of Dinesh Karthik, he has been selected as a wicket-keeper batsman. Hence there was no place for Kaif in the team.

Not much times these are all players have proved themselves.
For yuvraj, a great fielder, a stylish batsman and a handy spinner,
Sehwag has won matches single handly, and also a handy spinner, to provide variety, Pathan was a good bowler but he was missed in between batting and bowling... All these are well groomed either in batting or in bowling, though they provide a handy batsman or bowling, when it needed.
with Kaif, everybody wants him to be in team, but there are kaif like options are coming on, say Raina who are the only fielder.
Kaif should emerged as a strong middle order batsman, who not only stick to the wicket, but pace up the run rate. in an all, everybody wants so see him a match finisher.

i'm not sure, the likes of sehwag and yuvraj can demolish bowling attacks on thier day, as can pathan, who can also bowl and get wickets. kaif is a good fielder and ok batsman. i think the emergence of dinesh karthik has put kaif out of the list. karthick has batted really well in last few months. i dont think kaif batted at the ability we all know he can for india, tho his fielding is great.

for me personally Kaif should have been picked.
About comparing him with Sehwag an Yuvi well even if both of them are not fit they can bowl in few overs that might have done the trick for them to be selected.

He should have been given more chances. When chances came by his way he failed to grab it.It his not his fault as he has to bat at such a lower order and he has to come and hit.It is not possible for him.He should be introduced in no 3 and should be given more chances.Sehwag,Pathan and Yuvraj made it to the world cup as they are experienced plus they are all rounders

cricket is a funny game. at least in india, it is true. who came in and go out, no one can know about it. not selecters tooo??!! isn't it funny? so, no one has to be worried about kaif. he can prove him self and can come back in indian team. wish the indian team to perform good and should win the cricket world-cup.
