The first thing you need to do is contract with a Realty Agent in your area. Make sure that he/she/it is under the auspice's of a licensed Realty Broker.
A good agent will be of enormous assistance in you housing quest. A good agent will be able to walk you through the sometimes confusing requirements of obtaining the proper tags needed to purchase the home of your dreams.
You need not worry about the type of armament needed. Your agent will have all of the small and large caliber equipment handy and accessible in the trunk. Locked and loaded.
Home hunting can be a very exhilarating experience. The tracking, the chase, the kill. The smell of blood when the offer is accepted. The look in the eye of the seller when they realize they have sold it for 20% less than market. The blood lust of searching again for the next deal. The tremble of a foreclosure sale option. A bankruptcy bid. Oh God, what thrills? What power?
Sorry, getting a little excited there.
But don't do it on your own. You, as smart as you are, need the services of a completly amoral and hungry agent.

If you already have a wine rack, have a bottle before you start and you will need some wading boots. They will protect you from all the bad houses you will have to look at before you can bag the one you want. They might offer some protection from over zealous real estate agents trying to convince you those bad houses are just what you need. It is a dangerous task so do be careful.

What kind of rifle is needed actually depends on whether you get to hunt your house in a bullish market or a bearish one. Whether you carry a rifle or not, do carry a torch to find your way and take care that other hunters do not hunt you down by mistake.

Take at least a 700nitro full metal round. Depending where your hunting, the houses may be made of concrete.
