Is the inability for other people to manipulate the file the only reason why you want to make it hidden? What type of access do you want to give other users?

If the answer is: you don't want them to access the file at all, then the answer is what a previous poster said: you should encrypt the file. 'Hiding' the file is a very bad solution, because the 'security' of the file then depends on the other users not finding the file, which is naive. Encrypt it!

Any other answer: forget about it. There's no way for you to hide a file in such a way that other users can't find it. Which is exactly the reason why you should encrypt it if you want to keep the contents of the file secret.

I have a trick that is successful in hiding files and there are the following:

1. If they are text documents, or .doc, save as in other extensions. Choose whatever extension you want, like .bbb or .abc that can cause other users confused. Even if they have found your files they will just recognize it as a system file and not to open.
2. The other but-not-really-safe way is to create a labyrinth in your hard-disk. Choose the main gateway (I name it 1 and 2 and 3), then create three more folders each in the folders. This is ineffective, as Search can look for your files easily.
3. Encrypt it.
4. Do not store them in your hard-disk. Buy an external hard-disk (prices ranged from $50 to $1000) or an USB Flash Disk and save your files there. Bring it everywhere you go. Even if necessary, put a password. External hard-disks can be password protected.
5. Put the file far in the system operating files. But this is also ineffective as trick number 2, as the file can be searched easily using Search.

I hope this helps, glad to help you anyway.

Make it a system file and then make it hidden.
They can still unhide it from the Folders Option, but it isn't recommended to the user so it should be safe.

The cleanest way to make a system file is to learn C/++ and read the file and set the file attributes.

There is a way, I often hear it from friends that experienced bad security of Windows because of viruses attack.
I guess it needs a little hands-on work to Windows Registry.
Find the article from site, use google, maybe keywords like:
hacking windows, super hidden files, could works.
Since I running on Linux now, I can't help you further, I can bother fighting viruses everyday.

To hide from everyone, not allow others to unhide, and lock the file you will need to install software. See web pages below for some examples.

To hide file, but everyone can unhide and open:
Right click on file, select properties.
A dialog box opens Click on box labeled "hidden"

Two ways to put a password on a file or folder:

Right click on the file or folder, choose send to compressed file.
Double click on the compressed file to open.
On the menu bar click on File and then "Add a Password"

Yes if you right click on the file and go to properties, you can make the file hidden.
You should get a anti-virus program and run it along with a anti-spyware/malware program and run them in Safe mode first
