See Jamus answer.
There are colonies of shrimp in the deep pacific that never see light and live in previously considered inhospitable conditions. Deep sea vents are amazing places.
Life will find a way, shrimps do not need light.

some shrimps live in caves, and dont need light, not directly anyway.
some shrimps live deep in the ocean near 'smokers' (mini volcanoes) and they eat animals that get their energy from decomposing the chemicals that the earth emits
these communities dont need sunlight directly or indirectly in any way
this is a fairly novel realization by biologists

I think it may be because they eat plankton, the plant versions of which need light to live ergo, it is their food that needs the light.
