First is the safety aspect, brakes, Tyres must have at least .6mm tread over 75% of the width and steering to be in good condition, then there is a few more points.Lights; all lights fitted must work, headlights must be adjusted correctly, reversing lights don't count in MOT checks, windscreen must be free of cracks or chips etc.within the drivers
view, exhaust emissions must be within regulations,(this is one thing that you can't really check yourself)
seat belts must be in good condition,
structural parts must be free of serious rust and corrosion, windscreen wipers should be in good condition and washers should work, make sure the bottle has water in it !
The horn should work and so should the indicators no part of the body work should be a danger to pedestrians, brake lights can be checked by having someone watch them when you apply the brakes with the ignition switched on, the spare wheel doesn't count in the MOT.

There is hardly enough time to write it all on here

The book is endless but everything is safety minded

Brakes, lights, steering, suspension, tyres, construction and more and more and more.

Ask your local garage if they do e pre-mot test of just give it the once over too see if there is anything obvious

Hiya!
rust underneath (sills) seat belts, lights indercators not working or cracked, no.plate lights need to work, tryes tread, worn & spare flat. brakes, horn out..suspension has got to be good.all the saftey things! & transmission fumes can be too high..theres loads.. go to a garage & ask for a faliure sheet.
or take your car in for 20 quid you'll get an MOT & see your own faliures (if any) if it's loads of work, sell it as spares or repairs.
good luck! ; )

The list goes on, there is so much but here is a site that tells you everything: http://www.motester.co.uk/mot-cog.html

The car is checked against a test index. If you ask your garage they may let you have a copy. Have a look at http://www.motester.co.uk/cog.html.
