Hyenas are not known to fight solo, so I would pick the Leopard.

Although it would depend on the size of the individuals of each species, if they were evenly matched by weight I would bet on the leopard. Imagine a 15 pound cat vesus a 15 pound dog. I think the cat would typically win an all-our battle because, while the jaws are equally dangerous, the cat would tend to use their claws to greater advantage than the dog. So I would go with the leopard. Of course a large female hyena may beat a small male leaopard, and vice versa.

Is this to be a RACE or a FIGHT or a BEAUTY CONTEST?

One Leopard in a RACE against one Hyena, probably the Leopard wins.
One Leopard in a FIGHT against one Hyena, probably the Leopard wins.
One Leopard in a BEAUTY CONTEST against one Hyena, probably the Leopard wins.

This, of course, ASSUMES that they are both adults. If a juvenile Leopard goes against an adult Hyena, then perhaps the Hyena has a chance. (Unless it's a beauty contest, then even a juvenile Leopard beats a Hyena).

one on one the leopard has the advantage, but also know that where one hyena is there are many close by, and an animal show about a month ago showed the leopard balking at the opportunity to confront a hyena one on one, as both cats know it would result in injury to both, that could spell their doom.

ummmm spotted lepard are quite the acrobats and are fierce but hyenas are just as or if not more fierce hyenas, are the only animal in africa known to prey on lions. i saw on animal planet 2 hyenas killed a male lion. (all in good health....) but one on one its togh to say because a bite only has so much range and a hyena can only get so close. i would say that a hyena is more powerful believe it or not because it jaw and a spotted hyena is quite large.....

one leopard vs one hyena, then the leopard would win, but hyenas usually attack in packs.

a hyena because of its jaw strength and size ... if it gets one good bite the fight would easily be over.
