Does anyone know of an author who writes in a similar style to Barbara Erskine? I like a combination of Ghostly and Spiritual/Mystery/Romance/History/Thriller/Psychology etc. Also prefer longer books - 800 pages+ - hate finishing a good book.

No, I don't know of someone like Erskine, but I wish you a lot of luck in finding a similar author.

Barbara Erskine is one of my 2 favourite authors - the other is Sharon Penman. She is more historical without the mystery thrown in but she does write about Matilda de Braose in one of her novels. She has started writing a series of historical detective type stories which I don't like as much so the ones I recommend are: Here Be Dragons, The Reckoning, Falls The Shadow, When Christ and all his Saints Slept and The Sunne in Splendor. They are all good long books as well.

I think that Barbara Erskine is unique. I have been recommended other writers, whose names I forget, and gound them pretty unreadable. I think that Erskine's fans are stuck with her. I must say though that I preferred her earlier books, particularly Lady of Hay and Midnight is a Lonely Place. If you find anyone let me know!

Try Susan Hill; The Mist in the Mirror was a good one. Not too long though.
Or Susan Howatch's Starbridge series; the first is set in the Thirties and the last in the nineties. Very good, brilliant in my view, and long enough to get your teeth into.

Try Nora Roberts, she has some good ones. Morrigans Cross triology is really good.
