The Cowboy's are known as americas team due to their rich tradition going back to the 1960's. Although they didn't win their first championship till 1973 they were always competitive. During the Mid 70's the national media tagged them America's Team due to their reputation for having fans in the stands at their away games. Although they did not do as well during the 80's the name stuck till the 90's when it came back stronger than ever. Since then many other teams have tried to steal the tag America's team but most of those teams were all Superbowl Champions. The Packers tried as did the Patriots after 9/11. The person who said that the Cowboys are similar to the Yankees in terms that you either love them or hate them is correct. The truth is that The Cowboys are and forever will be Americas team, the worlds team and God's favorite team. If you don't believe it just check out who has the highest merchadise sale of any franchise of any sport every year and you will see the Cowboys in the top 5 every year.

THEY say they are America's Team. That was their OWN nickname. Out of fairness ask the World who the Dallas Cowboys are and most will know.

The Cowboys are America's Team only in Texas. Pick 32 different regions of the country and you'll have 32 different America's Team.

I am a avid die hard Dallas Cowboys fan and as long as I can remember they have been called "America's Team" and for the life of me, I do not know why. All I know is they are my team and that is good enough for me.

I'm not sure why they are called America's team. I've been a Cowboys fan since I was 5 years old and that has always been their nickname. I don't think they gave themselves the nickname, it just sort of happened.

I hate the cowboys they are not America's team, they are Texases team because they are the only people that say that! America's team is the Pittsburgh Steelers no doubt about it! They have the best fan following in the league!

The Cowboys have, arguably, the largest fanbase nationwide. They are the New York Yankees of football in that people seem to either love them or hate them.

The Packers are the true America's team. Owned by the community, not some rich prick. Also, they have 12 world championships.

They have the most Superbowl appearances (Packers have the most championship wins though, but before it was the Superbowl) and of course the world renowned cheerleaders.
