Maybe the parents of those in power today were asking us but those "whiney foreigners" are their children that simply do not believe (NOR DO I) that they have any obligation to cater or fawn and gravel at our feet or heed to the will of someone with illusions of grandeur they disagree with, as many AMERICANS disagree with Dubya.
Having received our help does NOT obligate them to be our lapdogs. They are entitled to their own beliefs... right, wrong or indifferent and THAT, by the way, is what America is all about, helping and not expecting eternal gratitude and flattery!
You're being a bit harsh with your words, and it shames us as a Nation that you would even think that out loud!
Arrogance is exactly why we, Americans, are not well-liked around the world today. Helping them does NOT entitle us to control their government or their country or their lives. We can suggest means and ways for them to become self-sufficient but it does not entitle us to send our industrialists to rape their people and land! Make a note of that, booby!
EDITED: susi, you're forgetting our good neighbors to the north? They arrived in Louisiana about 3 days before the Federal Government sent help, and they have also helped us in the past during hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, droughts, flooding and, yes, 9/11... but the USA has never recognized them for this, and Canadians do NOT ask for anything in return, not even our gratitude (which we should have expressed to them out of common courtesy).

In response to kcl 30's answer.
Not that England owes us anything, I have been there many times , I liked the people and had a great time every time.
But it was the U.S. that ran the blockaded oceans and kept you supplied, it was U.S. pilots that came and flew with you to over England, it was the U.S. that drove the Germans off your doorstep on the western European coast, and it was the U.S. that pushed the Germans back into their own country in Western Europe.
I would suggest you learn the history of WW2 before you detract from the great accomplishments of our veterans.
Most of this took place while the Germans were half way across Russia and they were only worried about themselves/

Thats rich considering most people in America can't find Britain or Iraq on a map and over 80% of you don't own passports.
By the way, it was Russia that saved us from the Nazis. You guys came late to the party after Britain had saved itself from invasion with help from great Polish and Czech pilots and the Russians were throwing everything at the Germans on the Eastern Front.
Just to add something in response to Snowball 4... I now live in Germany and both the Germans and History itself will tell you that when the British/Americans/Canadians/French/Polish and the rest all landed in Normandy they were faced with the greenest units of the German army. Meanwhile the Russians were standing alone on the Eastern Front fighting the toughest units that the German army had.
The Germans were **** scared of what the Russians would do to them if they entered Germany and hence they used their best units against Russia. They knew that Bruitain and the US would act more humanely.
Britain was defended by its own airforce and many pilots from Poland and the Czech Republic (as it is now called). The US were nowhere in sight during the battle of Britain.
The help from the US was not free. Britainonly paid off its war debt to the US this year. They also transferred their technological breakthroughs to the US in 1940 and the US produced the technology. Thus the British gave the US technological plans and ideas in return for that help. see the link below.
Typical US revisionist history is what you are spouting.

We should have left them to the Nazis for about thirty or fourty years. The Eastern Europeans appericate America. Especially after getting that yoke of communism removed by the Gipper.

It is the what have you done for me lately syndrome. People also forget the diligent effort of the United States in conjunction with NATO standing firm against Soviet aggression. The rhetoric against America is hollow and flat. These countries profess to hate us, but they have no problem taking our dollars in foreign aid and trade. If they truly want me to believe they hate America stop taking any money from our markets period. Until then it is just lip service.
kcl_30: Your understanding of history is very selective indeed. I agree with you that the Eastern campaign helped doom Germany sooner, but they were doomed from the start even without it. You seem to forget that Allied armies, including the United States entered Berlin at the same time as Russian forces. Further you overlook the American contribution to the British war effort prior to our entry into the war. Research the Lend/Lease Program because it is very significant. Without this equipment the situation for the British might have been vastly different. I have always admired the British for standing firm against Germany, but people like yourself are annoying because you attempt to cherry pick events and actions to support your incorrect view of events.

Hmmm..... let's go a little more recent.
What about all the people we saved from starvation in Africa?
The people who we saved from a multitude of tyrranies?
The people we saved from extermination in Bosnia, in Africa, in the Far East?
People have short memories.
A couple months after we liberated France, the euphoria wore off. The French took extreme delight, and even a perverse pleasure, in mocking and cheating Americans as much as they could.
And do you know why? Because having to feel gratitude is a humiliating thing. Therefore, the French (and people from all over the world) instead felt RESENTMENT.
It's the same thing in Iraq. After we liberated them from Saddam, I read several quotes from Iraqis, all saying the same thing: they felt humiliated by the Americans because they were not strong enough to get rid of Saddam Hussein themselves.
Gratitude? Forget it. And in fact, we don't want it.
