My husband thinks I'm being unreasonable to ask him to remove his snow-covered shoes after he comes in from starting the car. He says that he's leaving again in a few minutes, so why should he take them off? However, while he's waiting for the car to warm up, he tromps all over the house and leaves wet spots everywhere; the living room, kitchen, hallway, bedroom, and bathroom. I know what other women would say, but what about you men? Is this an unreasonable request?

Everyone seems caught up in the starting the car thing. Let me be more general: He will not take his shoes off when entering the house under any circumstances. When he put together a swing set in our back yard on a muddy Spring day, he thought that I was being unreasonable asking him to take his shoes off then too (when he came in to use the bathroon, which i cannot do for him). Or when he takes the garbage out in the rain, or after he takes the kids fishing, etc.
Furthermore, we don't fight about it, I'm just sick of him saying I'm 'unreasonable' because I ask him to do something so simple-- something that I believe most people would do in their own houses simply because it keeps the house nicer and makes the carpet last longer. Does he want to buy new carpet more often because it's muddy? Or does he want to spend his weekends behind a steam cleaner?
I just want to know how other people feel about taking thier shoes off when entering the house with muddy, or wet shoes.

no it's not unreasonable he is showing u he has no respect for the home and for u. he just doesn't care about the mess he leaves. he should take his shoes off if he is tracking snow all over. maybe he should be cleaning up the mess himself.

Have the car installed with an electronic starter---this way you're hubby won't have to go out in the snowy cold to start his car. It's inexpensive and will save a lot of hassles of wet spots and muddy boot prints every where---You'll be happy and so will he when he just presses the button on the electronic starter and his engine is warming up while he spends more time in the warmth of the house with you.!

Why can't he stomp off all the extra snow out on the doorstep before he comes in? Have a towel inside the door on the floor for him to step on. Excuse the comparison, but...we have four dogs that we let come through the house from the back yard to the garage whenever the weather is bad. There are 3 other people living here, and I have to tell them all EACH time they let the dogs thru to get a dirty towel for the floor before they open the door. Maybe if we let our husbands and children clean up the resulting mess....

I take it you are not leaving the house shortly after that? Then, you go start the car, come in the house, and take your shoes off. This will stop him fron having to go out, start the car, come in, and take his shoes off even though he is fixing to leave.
Or, buy a new car that you can start from inside the house, and then he will not have to go out there to do so.
But, yes, it is not fun having to either stand in one place while the car warms up, or take your shoes off to put them right back on in a few minutes.

Your husbands actions are selfish unless he has to clean up his mess. Alot of people take for granted other peoples kindness, but this situation seems to get on your nerves. You need to enforce the facts about ruining the carpet coupled with your dissatisfaction. If he is the husband he should be he will understand and make the necessary changes

Probably it isn't unresonable but I sure hope you don't start your days together arguing about this petty thing. Buy him a car starter or go start the car for him if the snow bothers you.

No it's not unreasonable.
He should be able to do something. Either take them off or cover them.
If he's warming the car then he should be with the car regardless of if it has power locks.
