My favourite and accordingly for me the best is Queen Margot about the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Reine_Margot_%28book%29
(Heinrich Mann has written another great novel on the subject: Young Henry of Navarre/ Henry King of France)
Followed by Joseph Balsamo:

based very loosely on the life of Alessandro Cagliostro:

...and The Vicomte de Bragelonne:

If you mean Dumas pere, as I think you do, it can only be Vint ans apres, or whatever it is really called (I"m just making this up). All I know for sure is that Maureen O'Hara was adorable in the film version.

My favorite is his last (and unfinished !) : "The knight of St-Hermine"
But "'the queen Margot" is also astonishing.
I also recommand to you the excellent movie "the queen Margot" with Isabelle Adjani.
