I don't see a clear cut answer. A would be good response if the "pain" is not very serious and the student could withstand it. Any pain that persists for more than 3 to 5 days warrants medical attention. If an incident occurs and the pain is unbearable and there is visible damage or deformity a doctor should be seen immediately. So in that case B is the best answer.
In all sports injuries it is always safer to be too careful and see a doctor for an injury. Someone qualified like a certified athletic trainer can advice the student to wait a few days or see a doctor immediately, they are well trained and know what to look for.

I recently fractured my foot playing soccer, the pain was sharp at first, and then subsided. I did both A + B, I rested it until I was able to see a professional sports doc. Both were helpful, but please remember what's best for yourself, if your pain is so sharp that it's causing moderate to extreme discomfort, RUSH TO A DOCTOR! but if your only finding it a little weird, unusual, it's still something to worry about of course, but resting it before freaking out is a great idea. Take it easy and access yourself!

B immediately. Sports injuries are all a serious matter and are usually looked after right away.

A

Of course it depends on the type of pain, location, etc.
