that means youve lost boot on windows xp, one of the major design faults from microsoft. you need to reformat and reinstall windows. if you have valuable files on the drive, you can slave it to another and see if you can dig them out, otherwise your screwed. and need to start again, sorry.

Insert and boot from your Windows XP CD...
At the first R=Repair option...press the 'R' key...
Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair...Typically this will be #1...
Enter in the administrator password when requested...
Enter in the following commands (X: is replaced by the actual drive letter that is assigned to the CD-Rom drive...
COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C:\
COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
Take out the CD-Rom and type exit...
boot off a floppy disc that loads your CD drive. then once at the DOS prompt, change to the CD drive, ie D:, type CD i386 and then run the file winnt.exe this should then run the Windows XP setup and repair your system or just do an 'over-the-top' install - repairing damaged files, while maintaining documents and other programs.

NTLDR is one os the important system files, you will get this message if that file is corrupted or if it was deleted( this generally does not happen) so now to fix this issue you need to use the Windows XP Operating system CD boot through it when it gets to the Welcome to setup screen press R, it asks to press the Appropriate number for the Operating system press 1 and hit Enter now it asks for the password, leave the password blank and hit enter now enter the following lines and hit enter.
1. Copy X:\i386\NTLDR C: (where X is your CD ROM drive letter)
2. Copy X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:
now type exit that will restart the system back to the desktop. if this fails the only way to get your system up and running is by doing a clean format and reinstallation. hope this will fix the issue.

this can happen for many reasons. NTLDR is required by windows XP to boot up your computer.
if the boot drive has been altered in the bios (if you have more than one drive occasionaly this problem can happen)
so go in to the bios and check that the correct hard drive is listed as the boot drive (boot from).
it could be that the master Hard drive has failed and so your drive is dead and needs to be replaced.
it could alo be some form of malware that has corrupted your hard drive.
this can normally be correct by booting from the original Operating system boot disk. hence why7 you are asked for "master cd1" this will have been supplied with your computer system and should be somewhere safe in your home. if you have lost the disc you will have to either phone the company you bought the computer from or the retailer to get a replacement.
once you get the master cd you should be able to run arestore install to replace any missing files and to recover your hard drive.
your first option should be to check your bios. as on several occasions over the last six months my system has reported unable to boot and it turned out that the hard drives had for some unexplained reason changed boot order. also on one occasion my system was unable to boot because one of the drives had become corrupt and reporting errors. this was fixed by booting to safe mode and running from the command prompt
chkdsk c:/r/x (this will check the C drive, but only upon reboot, it checks for and can in most cases recover bad sectors and so recover your hard drive). occasionally though this check is unable to recover your drive and so a replacement hard drive is your only option.
good luck.

I had the same problem because my windows were counterfeit and I didn't even know they were. Most windows are BIOS setup since the dos has been kind of exchanged for it. Your master CD is your whole set up. Actually your whole program. ctrl alt delete would not work with my Windows XP. Finlay I could not use my computer. If your computer is worth it you may need a tech.

It is asking for the 1st disk of the restore disk set that came with your pc when first purchased.
It is trying to correct the problem it has on its own but cant without the CD.
If you dont have it, i would reccomend purchasing a new windows XP disk and doing a fresh re-installation of your operating system. You will, however, loos all files that you have not backed up. If you have important files that you absolutely need you can:
1: hook the hard drive up as a SLAVE drive in another machine to access all files and folders.
2: Take to a PC Shop to have them do the above for you (usually a very small fee)
Hope this helped!

Do you have an XP Certificate of Authentication on your PC's case (XP key on it)? Do you have your XP install CD?
Start the PC with XP CD in, press any key when prompted to boot from CD. DO NOT select the 1st Repair option. Your current installation of XP will be detected, and you'll be asked if you want to repair this, choose this option and XP will be reinstalled while leaving all your programs and data intact.

it's proly telling you to insert a bootable CD.
NTLDR MISSING can be many things. sometimes it means you have virus, sometimes it means your ram is bad or overheating or it could mean your HD is bad. but chances are you can just replace it by going into your recovery folder and use your system back uped ones. figure out what is the porblem first. oh and also it could be missplaced i think lol
