I am having problems with my home pc. It loads Windows OK but then when it says "detected new hardware, digital still camera" it crashes and I get the dreaded blue screen. I have tried booting in safe mode but pressing F8 doesn't give me an option to load in safe mode, I get the choice of booting with floppy, CD or the "normal". Is there any other way to boot my pc in safe mode?

I don't actually have the camera in question, I think it has been bundled in with the kodak easyshare software I was installing.

I will try hitting the other function keys tonight and see if that gets me anywhere.

It sounds like you're pressing F8 too early and bringing up the Boot Menu instead.

Instead, wait until your POST (Power On Self Test) screen is just about to vanish, then press F8 (but before you see the XP loading screen).

Booting into Safe Mode requires pressing F8. It is NEVER ANY OTHER KEY. The respondents suggesting using any other key are mistaken - this gets you into your system BIOS not into Windows safe mode.

From your description it sounds like you are not pressing F8 at the correct time. It needs pressing as soon as Windows starts loading (which is after you will have seen some other stuff on your screen such as testing system memory etc). A little bit of trial and error should get you there.

Safe mode options must appear if you press F8 continuously at the booting time. also you have to unplug your new hardware ((digital camera)) before you try booting becoz some hardware's conflict with your system which prevent t from booting normally. but in other hand the blue screen is a bad sign of hardware failure like bad sectors on hard disk or RAM damage take it step by step and try to see.

some pc's use f2 or f12, think ive even seen f5. You have to do it like immediately after you hit the power on button (repeatedly tap till you get menu) There should be a screen allowing the options: Safe Mode, Safe Mode w/ Networking, Command Prompt, Normal, etc..

Dont think your camera is going to work in safe mode ( it loads the least amount of drivers)

Instead of 'F8', have you tried either 'Escape' or 'Delete' when you boot-up? Don't forget to start pressing the key while you're booting-up, and every second or so until you enter Safe Mode.

that menu isn't from Windows it is from your BIOS. now i don't remember if it's F4 or F8 but if it's F8 and your BIOS isn't letting the F8 though then i think you can disable that function in the BIOS menu.

That and Yes unplug the Camera and get a updated driver from the manufacture ones that doesn't BLUE SCREEN your computer

1. Unplug the camera you have plugged in

2. Install the drivers and software that came with the camera.

3. If none of the about work then go buy a Mac.
