English is the official language in Singapore, no worries. :) i took the train before. its safe. just practice you're everyday common sense and you'll be fine. train a wee bit old sometimes. book early though if you want sleepers, always runs out fast. for prices, go to

www.ktmb.com.my

generally 3rd class less than S$40 for return trip.
if however you are travelling much further than KL, i recommend you buy the ticket for SG to KL then buy the onward journey in KL. cheaper that way. :) coming back you can buy straight. tickets are cheaper in msia than in sg.

i also recommend to you this site:
www.seat61.com
http://seat61.com/Malaysia.htm

they cover (give you information) rail services in countries in every continent! love that site. :)

enjoy your trip! :)
any other queries feel free to email me. i'll be your answering machine.

Well, I guess it's personal preferences as well, but the bus will be the fastest. Especially if you get a super VIP coach from Pudaraya terminal directly to Singapore (which will take the Tuas border crossing). As others have already mentioned, the train will take you 8 hours and the bus around 5 or 6 hours. But of course the train has its own charm and has the advantage that you can walk around, read a book, etc. It is advisable to book train tickets in advance, otherwise you may not be able to get a seat (depending on what time and day you want to go). And for bus tickets, try to avoid going on Sunday's unless you have to be in Singapore on Sunday night. Sunday it's hard to get bus tickets and you may end up having to travel to JB first and from there taking a local bus across to Singapore.

You can take KTM from Singapore @Keppel Road, straight up to Kuala Lumpur. Kindly visit KTM's official website at http://www.ktmb.com.my for more details. The train tickets will cost about $19 - $68, depending on the type of category seats you'll be choosing and this is based on a single trip only. For return trip, you must select the choice yourself to see the prices.

If not, you can also try to take coach up to KL. Kindly visit http://www.the-inncrowd.com/singtomsia.htm for more details. This great website also offers other means of transport for your convenience.

I would like to point out to you that NO Singaporeans take the train to KL! Uncomfortable, slow and expensive.
You would be better off taking a coach(very cheap and comfortable) or a plane (fast and comfortable).

There's no prb at all, everyone in kl or sig can speak english, even tho they are not fluent in english. no worries abt that.
I think taking the train is the best way to explore malaysia, if you have lots of time, try to stopby one day in penang, one day in kl, and one day in kotabahru... such a lovely journey you will have, i wish i have a time for that.
