Rome. hands down. very few civilizations spread as much influence throughout the ancient world. Their power, military might, culture, and longevity probably made them the greatest.

Greatest so I assume that means all inclusive, military power, art, culture, political system, length of power, etc.
Great Britain & the British Empire. I find few civiliations that have lasted as long as Britain, or that have covered as much of the planet under there political system. With Australlia they are the only power that was every controlled an entire contenit and had a country, state or nation in almost evry time zone on the planet.
The Greeks at best were a confederation of city states and only under Alexander were they able to consolidate and expand their power. Geek art, plays, and literature are infulential even today.
Chinia was never able to consoldate power and until Mao Tse Tung the country was basiclly divided. There culture was greater than there military power.
Egyptians, had a power and long lasting civilizations, but were conquered several times and was never able to extend there power beyond the nile.
Summerians, & Babolonians, could not project power and influence beyond the middle east.
Romans were master without compare, and conquered every enemy they knew, birthed all the romantic lanuages, art relgion and culture although based upon and similar too that of the Greeks was expanded to all areas of the mediterain. The political system allowed for the first democracies on a large scale. And the empire is credited for lasting nearly 1000 years.
The USA, although problable the most powerful nation now and in the last 100 years, the length of time, with only 230 years of independence, they do not yet meet the test of time. But they remain the only civilization to land a person on the moon.
There are a number of other civilization to consider but all of the do not make the list. Persia, Aztec, Inca, Russian, German, French, to regional and not enough time as a power.Mongol wins greatest land mass under a single leader but no longevity. All said and done it would have to be the British Empire.

Western culture as rooted in Old English Common Law. This is inclusive of such as Canada, Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, New Zeland, and the United States. The reason is that this has evolved the greatest concept of individual freedom which resulted in the highest sustained (and growing) standard of living.

Well, the Chinese offer stiff competition, but I would have to go with the early-empire Romans. Those people knew how to govern a vast territory without railroads or steamships. I reckon it was mostly a question of co-opting local leaders.

I would say Greek. Greeks were the first Rennaisance people even before that period transpired. They valued the concept of thought (they had the first philosophers) and one of the first civilizations who valued nationalism.
Their literature and mythology was so rich that even Romans, the pioneers of Rennaisance, imitated it.

Militarily? The United States of America.
Artistically? Probably Italy.
It all depends on how you define "great."
