Our baby girl is due any day, the name we have decided to give her is "Eloise Poppy". Her surname will start with "T", do people think it is a problem if her initials will be E.T. (Will people still associate this with the movie these days??)

People are also mentioning "EPT" as a pregnancy test, I don't think that is a term used in Australia (do tell me if I am wrong). I've never heard of it!

No, I think those initials are fine. I have a friend who is E.T. and I don't think she's felt any ill effects.
I agree with the others about the EPT pregnancy test, but if that's not in Australia, I woudn't worry about it.
And certainly, PET would be worse, so I wouldn't think of rearranging it to Poppy Eloise.

Yes, i think people will make fun of her initials... her full initials will be E.P.T. as in the pregnancy test, and E.T. the alien. she'd be an alien pregnancy test! I like the name Eloise, but try changing the middle name... Poppy sounds old and doesn't mix well with Eloise. Plus, even though you wouldn't think kids care about the initials, but trust me they do. Mine are T.L.C. and people always ask "do you really provide tender loving care?" or refer to the t.v. channel T.L.C.
Mine are annoying, but E.P.T. are a LOT worse.... really consider changing the middle name for your baby's sake!! it's not too late and you don't have to name the baby the very day it's born... you can wait and do it before you leave the hospital...

Sure the initials will be associated with the movie ET, but that was a good movie and he's a well loved character. My mother in law had the initials ET as a girl, and still uses them because she liked the movie so much, she and a friend saw it 20 times or some incredible number. I wouldn't worry about her initials unless you think she'll be vertically challenged, wrinkly, with long fingers and neck with an oversized head. ;) Otherwise, Eloise will be known for her first name, not her initials. ;)

Even though I think that "Eloise" is a beautiful name, you should think about meanings and what names represent. However, "Eloise" is of German origin and it means "a loud battle".
"Poppy" - I believe you found unbelievably cute since it does mean "flower" but it reminds me of "poppy seeds" which is undoubtedly linked to "opium"... enough said.
As far as the "E.T." uncertainty goes – I strongly believe she will be teased since you can't look at it from a grown-up's rational point of view. Children tend to be very cruel and await the slightest glitch to tease each other; they’ll dig it up somehow. This may, sometimes, be traumatic for a child when growing up.
Take these factors into consideration:
- Name origin and meaning
- Potential nicknames
- Frequency
- Suitability
- International equivalent
Good luck and I wish you all the best!

EPT Early Pregnancy Test... It is a brand name. Like having the initals spell out IRS ect... On a different note: I think Poppy is really sweet for her middle name :)

They might make the connection but I don't think anyone will make fun of her for it.
It is a cute name. Kids will make fun of anything so don't worry about ET. Also, if you don't have EPT then no worries with that either!
I think Eloise Poppy is cute! :) SD

I would say yes but that doesn't mean anything my aunt's is SSS and my other aunt is LSD. They weren't born with those initials they just changed after they got married. Name your baby whatevery you would like to. It's your baby don't worry what other people are going to think. She can always use her Poppy initial if she wishes too. EPT That's what I had to do in school because everyone had my initials or I had their's. At least it's not ESP, CNN, TNT, DIC, FUK, A SS, SEX, SOS, SSS, LSD, BUT or anything else like that, but I'm sure some people do.

I really don't think that will be an issue at all. Besides, in twenty or so years it won't matter because it will probably be changing. :)
Now, I can't resist making a small quip - did you use the "Error Proof Test" (EPT) when you suspected you were pregnant? :)
